Hike to the La Soufriere Volcano. If you’re someone that likes to be in touch with nature, this hike is for you.
1.
LA SOUFRIERE VOLCANO TOUR
ST VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES
6-7 hours
- It’s by far the most popular tour on the island of St Vincent.
- It’s a long but interesting hike, with breathtaking views and a challenge you need to endure on your visit to our beautiful island.
- The La Soufriere Volcano, last erupted explosively in April 2021, began with an effusive eruption in December 2020, has been a spectacle for many locals and visitors, as well as a staple of our country’s tourism for many years.
- When visiting St Vincent & the Grenadines, the La Soufriere Volcano hike is a must. A spectacular view from the top that you can’t find anywhere else, and where the temperature becomes the lowest it’ll ever be on the island.
- While enjoying the beautiful landscape hiking through this lush mountain, you can get lost in the sounds from the birds in the trees, like the soothing sounds of the whistling warbler, which is endemic to the island. In the distance, you can hear the flowing streams of rivers and waterfalls that can be found deeper in the mountain, further away from the trail. If you’re someone that likes to be in touch with nature, this hike is for you.
- This beautiful mountain packs one of the world most powerful volcanoes, and because of it, St Vincent has been blessed with fertile soil, producing lush vegetation. La Soufriere, a stratovolcano, has 8 recorded eruptions since 1718, and had been dormant since 1979.
- Since the eruption in 2021, the slopes of the volcano have changed dramatically by heavy ash fall and pyroclastic flows. Two years after the eruption, it doesn’t even feel like we’ve experienced one. That’s how well we recovered. Our soil is more fertile than ever.
- Depending on your fitness level, it can take roughly 1 to 2½ hours hike from the starting of the trail to the top of the mountain. The drive from Kingstown (the city) can take about 1 hr 15 mins, where we drive along the coastal roads on the eastern side of the island where you can see the ocean throughout the drive.
- On this tour, we provide you with an adequate amount of bottled water for the hike, local soft drinks on board and then we dine for lunch at a local restaurant. It’s a well spent day in St. Vincent. In the night, you sleep like a baby. It’ll be the best sleep you’ll ever get.
